At a certain point in Metal Gear Solid, Solid Snake is held captive by Liquid Snake and Revolver Ocelot, and is tortured for information, at which point players are given the choice of either withstanding the torture (via some good old button mashing), or giving in and giving up the information they want. Choosing to do the latter presents devastating consequences- more specifically, Meryl eventually dies, and she is replaced in the game’s ending by Huey.
