UNCHARTED: GOLDEN ABYSS
Resistance: Retribution isn’t the only Sony Bend-developed handheld spinoff of a major Sony first party series to feature on this list. 2012’s Uncharted: Golden Abyss bears the shame of being perhaps the only Uncharted game in history to be “overlooked” (unless you count that weird card game). There were multiple reasons for that. For starters, some of the touch screen controls the game forced on players weren’t very well received. But mostly importantly, the game was a PS Vita exclusive- a handheld exclusive entry in a major series always runs the risk of being left by the wayside, but when that game is exclusive to a handheld to sold all of eleven units worldwide, that’s pretty much a guarantee. It’s a shame, because Golden Abyss is, at the end of the day, exactly what Uncharted needs to be- exciting, beautiful, enjoyable, and well-written.
