Perhaps Hi-Fi Rush under-promised simply because it was a surprise release, with its development kept behind closed doors. So, in effect, there wasn’t a promise made at all. Instead, we must wonder why its development was kept a secret. Well, Tango Gameworks – famed for survival horror series The Evil Within – were concerned by Hi-Fi Rush’s tonal pivot, it’s bright and vibey gameplay, would too distant from player expectation. They couldn’t have been more wrong. Hi-Fi Rush charmed en masse, with players and critics praising visual style, characters, humorous story, and pumping soundtrack.
