Batman: Arkham Asylum
Like movie tie-ins, licensed properties were a tricky endeavour for game developers. Before Batman: Arkham Asylum came out there were rumbles that this would be another failed superhero game, but doubters could not have been more wrong. Asylum really got what it means to be Batman, from the excellent hand-to-hand combat, raft of gadgetry, stealth, climactic story, fantastically acted characters, Rocksteady thought of everything. Many Arkham series players prefer the first over subsequent entries too given the tight design of its open world.
