Lionhead Studios’ Fable franchise followed a consistent pattern for as long as it stuck around, it made ambitious promises, and then failed to live up to them, but still delivered enjoyable games. That’s pretty much what happened with the original Fable as well- it wasn’t the revelation that some thought it would be, but even so, it was a damn fine game. It was set in a charming world, boasted simplistic yet engaging choice-driven gameplay, and allowed players a delightful amount of freedom to mess about in the game’s world and craft memorable stories of their own making.
