30. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit

Developed by Criterion, Hot Pursuit, named after the third (and sixth) Need for Speed game, gave the series a much needed revival. It featured the fast paces races that we’ve all come to love Criterion developed games for, and thrashing cop and rival cars was as fun as it could be. Using EMP blasts and spike strips and other such items gave an interesting twist to the relentless gameplay, and it all ultimately came together to deliver what is probably the best game in the long running series.

29. Folklore

This is one of the unique gems that the PS3 has. It was a very underrated game and most people easily skipped on it, which is a lot unfair, as it really needs a lot more exposure. The game’s story
telling is second to none and gives you a lot of characters to play with. It can’t be a called an RPG in the truest sense, as it possesses very few of those mechanics, but if you are looking for a really unique adventure game, look no further.

28. inFamous 2

inFamous was an incredible game, but it had a lot of flaws. inFamous 2 came along, took everything that was wrong with the original and improved upon it in every way possible, and turned out to be one of the most enjoyable games any of us had ever played. Its karma system, while a little bit too immature (ala Fable), provided depth to the gameplay, and roaming around the city and electrocuting our foes was a blast. The mission structure was really good, and the story was impressive as well. It did not innovate as much over the original inFamous as it should have, but it was sure one hell of a game.

27. Mortal Kombat

You can call it a reboot but damn, this was an amazing game. The PS3 version had some exclusive characters like Kratos, which really made it the version to buy. The value in this fighting game is second to none. If you love Mortal Kombat, this will be like a dream to play. It’s one of the most polished fighting games to have been released this gen. Yes, all those gory moves are back and looks much stunning now.

26. Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time

The Future series has to be the best thing that has ever happened to the Ratchet and Clank series, and A Crack in Time is the best game of the franchise. It’s better than the original, better than Up Your Arsenal, and even better than Tools of Destruction. It had a great storyline, and delved upon the bond between the lombax and the robot better than any other game in the series did. The shooting parts were brilliant, the gadgets were innovative and creatively designed, and platforming was tight and enjoyable. It’s sad, really, that it did not get the praise it deserved.

25. Deus Ex: Human Revolution

This game is a true successor to Deus Ex, the award winning game that game out in 2000. Deus Ex fans will be pretty pleased with this title as the gameplay mechanics are quite in-depth and better than many games released this gen. It gives the played a lot of options to tackle specific scenarios, and is one of the most refreshing games ever released.

24. Resistance 3

Resistance 3 is probably Insomniac’s last Resistance game this generation, and my, oh my, they went out with a bang. It had a brilliant, fast paced, thrilling campaign with relentless action and a spectacular storyline. The multiplayer experience was addictive, and while it was not in the class of the likes of Call of Duty, Killzone or Battlefield, it was still worth trying out. The main character, though, was a dick. I hope they kill off Joseph Capelli as soon as they can.

23. Dark Souls

This game would have been rated a lot higher without the severe frame rate issues it had. It has, arguably, one of the best combat systems in a video game. It is that fun and satisfying. The game is not for everyone though, it is very hard and especially compared to Demon’s Souls, but it also provides you with a massive world, which you can explore easily. If you loved the PS3 exclusive, Demon’s Souls, then you should get this game; it’s one of the best games on the system.

22. Vanquish

Yes, yes, Vanquish had a ten hour long campaign, and no multiplayer and/or any other game modes. Yes, it’s cover system is a bit derivative. Yes, it has terrifying writing. But at the end of the day, none of that matters. Vanquish is pure fun. It has incredible action, a fast paced campaign that thrills at each and every turn, and the armour sliding system has to be the best innovation we’ve seen in a third person shooter ever since Gears of War’s cover based popping and shooting. No matter what genre you prefer or don’t prefer, Vanquish is a game that you’ll definitely enjoy.

21. Battlefield 3

The game came out very recently and apart from some minor technical issues and muddy graphics, you won’t play a better FPS game that offers so much unlockables and fun online. The campaign is decent and the game is available on the PSN as well, but this is DICE’s best game, and also one of the best shooters to have been released on the PS3.
