Killzone 2
Let’s be honest, the PS3 didn’t really have any genre defining multiplayer shooter until Killzone 2 arrived. You could argue that the weighty controls and other deadzone issues scared away plenty of people from the game, and the learning curve was pretty high, but when you look at the core multiplayer design, it was well thought-out and had a lot of depth. The clan system of Killzone 2 was one of the best we’ve ever seen this gen, and while the class system is obviously inferior to, say, Team Fortress 2, it held its own well. While Call of Duty is more accessible, Killzone 2 rewarded people who put more effort into their game and encouraged a lot of teamwork. But the fact that it does encourage teamwork and camaraderie among team mates makes it one of the best multiplayer games to have been released this gen.
