WOLFENSTEIN 2: THE NEW COLOSSUS
Here’s another game that ended up dividing its series’ fanbase while following up on a successful revival- though not quite in the same way as Deus Ex: Mankind Divided– because its controversial story moment came not close to the end, but partway through the experience, where the villain, Frau Engel, literally beheads the protagonist, BJ, killing him in a very public and thorough execution. That, of course, is followed up almost immediately by an impossible and unlikely resurrection that not only arguably cheapens the impact of the previous scene, but also maybe goes a little bit too far into whacky sci-fi territory, where we see BJ’s severed head being attached to a new body through almost cartoonish means.
