Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 “Empowers” Gamers With New Create-a-Class

For a series constantly criticized for offering more of the same, Treyarch is working hard to ensure that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 “empowers” players with enough options, including a new Score Streak system and the Create-a-Class.

Director of brand development Jay Puryear talked to VG247 about what prompted the idea for players to create their own classes, stating, “Why are we forcing players to stick to our rules? How can be empower them to make their own rules? We looked at a lot of the assumptions that gamers had about Call of Duty multiplayer.

“So, the assumption here was that we’ve always done a slot-based class system. We’ve always had a primary and a secondary weapon. Why?”

For their part, Treyarch wants to ensure that players play the way they want, rather than fitting their style to a specific framework.

“We’re seeing new emerging gameplay styles and new mechanics thanks to things like the redesigned riot shield. You can take all those things and start to look at customisation that fits with your play style,” said Puryear.

We’ll see how well this customization balances out when Black Ops 2 releases this November.
