Gran Turismo 5 Datalogger Technology Creates the Virtual from the Real

Beat yourself. Not literally. We mean..oh, just watch the video.

Say what you will about Gran Turismo 5’s attention to detail, but there’s no denying that Sony isn’t the kind to cut corners. It recently released a video showcasing datalogger technology it developed with Toyota Corporation and Denso.

This allows to reproduce a real-life driving session in the game. The datalogger captures information such as engine RPM, Position and speed, which is then sent to the replay system within the game via USB. The replay is then analysed, even giving one the opportunity to race against their so-called “ghost” from real life.
