Windows 8 “Is a Fantastic Product”, Ballmer “Not Paid to Have Doubts”

One wonders what he is paid for then.

Worried that Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 OS may, oh, we don’t know, suck? Initial reports have been less than enthusiastic about the OS, especially criticising it for being more than an excuse to pander to the mobile user crowd.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer disagree though. In a conversation with the Seattle Times, Ballmer stated, “Windows 8 is going to do great,” he said in an interview with Seattle Times technology reporter Janet I Tu.

Which is all well and good, but how can anyone just take the word of a Microsoft CEO? The guy who’s selling the product in the first place?

“I’m not paid to have doubts.”

You’re not helping, Steve.

“I don’t have any. It’s a fantastic product… People talk about: ‘How healthy is the PC market?’ There’s going to be close to 400 million PCs sold in the next year, which makes it a big market. And whether it’s 405 million or 395 million, it’s a big market, and Windows 8 will propel that volume,” he said.

For all the complaints, Ballmer has a point. Just like Vista, Microsoft has enough ties in the PC market to ensure Windows 8 gets the push it needs, haters be damned.
