Hitman: Absolution devs say conventional multiplayer is always a tempting option

But they decided to go with something new and fresh.

All games these days have very boring, conventional multiplayer ideas, and while some games like Mass Effect 3 and Dark Souls manage to stay away from the usual deathmatch mode that we see in all games these days, chances are, we rarely see something new in the online aspect these days.

Hitman: Absolution devs IO Interactive, however, have managed to stay away from the conventions with the Contracts mode in the upcoming game, but gameplay director Christian Elverdam says including the normal, team vs. team multiplayer modes is a very tempting option for all devs.

“The broader sense of synchronised multiplayer will always be tempting to investigate,” Christian Elverdam told Eurogamer.

“If you look at the games industry right now, there’s no silver bullet game saying: ‘only multiplayer games from now on!’ or ‘only single-player games’,” he continued. “I think The Elder Scrolls is an example of game that did very well as a single-player game.

“If you look at the future I think players will be looking for social connectivity. We want to see what our friends are doing. Even if you’re a single-player guy who doesn’t like twitch-reactions or synchronised multiplayer.

“[But] there also exists a group of people who like to take things at their own pace. In Hitman there’s obviously a story, but it’s also about playing around with the AI. And that can be a real single-player experience.”

Hitman: Absolution releases in November for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Stay tuned for more updates.
