Insomniac Games has been quietly working on its next release, Marvel’s Wolverine, and the studio has previously reaffirmed its Fall 2026 release window. With that in mind, the idea that we might get a new trailer for the game at the upcoming State of Play showcase sounded quite obvious. However, the studio has taken to social media to say that it will only be revealing more details in Spring.

While this is far from an outright denial that Marvel’s Wolverine will be present in some form at the State of Play this week, the studio will likely simply make an announcement of what kinds of details we can expect to see when the time actually comes. The studio might also once more show off the gameplay trailer it had already released back in September.

Marvel’s Wolverine is going to be a major first-party game for Sony, and the company’s CFO Lin Tao even went as far as to call it its first major tentpole release for 2026. The statement was made during an investor call, where she was asked if Insomniac’s title would see any impact from Grand Theft Auto 6‘s November 19th release date. In response, Tao said that Marvel’s Wolverine will serve as a major anchor for Sony.

A report from last month, however, has indicated that Insomniac Games is looking at a September or October release date for Marvel’s Wolverine. According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, this is so that sales of the game can be maximized before the eventual release of GTA 6. While the latter is expected to sell well across all platforms, it is also likely to be more popular on PS5 than Xbox Series X/S.

“Wolverine is almost certainly going to come out in September or October,” said Schreier. “Xbox is almost a non-factor; I’m sure they’ll sell millions on Xbox, but PlayStation is the main platform, so it’s almost… in some ways it’s kind of like a PlayStation exclusive, that most of the sales will be on PlayStation and it will sell a lot of PlayStation 5s alongside it. So I suspect that Sony is planning its entire calendar around GTA and will not release anything within the blast zone.”

The gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine has been our only major look at the upcoming action game so far. The trailer showcased just how brutal Logan will be in the game, with players being able to dismember their enemies thanks to Wolverine’s fast attacks and blades. Among the enemies we got to see as part of this trailer were familiar foes like Sentinels. The story is also expected to be impacted by major X-Men characters like Mystique and Omega Red. The game will take players on a worldwide journey to locations like Japan, Canada, and Madripoor.

Marvel’s Wolverine is slated for release as a PS5-exclusive. However, it is worth noting that Insomniac’s titles have typically also been ported over to PC eventually. We last saw this with Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. For more details, check out our review of the PC release of the latest entry.
