Marvel’s Wolverine, Other PlayStation Releases Are Planned to Avoid GTA 6 “Blast Zone” – Rumour

Jason Schreier believes that Sony is treating the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 as if it were a first-party game to avoid crowding it.

Grand Theft Auto 6 might be getting a multiplatform release across PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but according to Jason Schreier in a recent episode of the Button Mash podcast, Sony is treating it like a PS5-exclusive. Schreier noted that, while GTA 6 will likely sell quite a few copies on Xbox consoles as well, it is far more likely to be a lot more popular on PS5. He also predicts that the game’s release will boost Sony’s console sales as well.

Commenting on the potential release date for the PS5-exclusive Marvel’s Wolverine, Schreier said that Sony and developer Insomniac Games are likely looking at a September or October launch window. This would keep the title well out of the way of Grand Theft Auto 6’s currently-planned November 19 release, ensuring that Rockstar Games’ opus doesn’t affect its sales.

“Wolverine is almost certainly going to come out in September or October,” said Schreier. “Xbox is almost a non-factor; I’m sure they’ll sell millions on Xbox, but PlayStation is the main platform, so it’s almost… in some ways it’s kind of like a PlayStation exclusive, that most of the sales will be on PlayStation and it will sell a lot of PlayStation 5s alongside it. So I suspect that Sony is planning its entire calendar around GTA and will not release anything within the blast zone.”

While this likely doesn’t mean that Sony has struck up any exclusivity-related business deals for the PS5 release of Grand Theft Auto 6, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to assume that plans to release PS5 console bundles that include a copy of the game haven’t already been discussed. These bundles would help in further boosting sales of the console for the newer audience it will likely attract.

On the same podcast, Schreier had also further discussed the release date of Grand Theft Auto 6, which has already seen its fair share of delays. He drew comparisons with the number of delays that affected Red Dead Redemption 2 before its eventual 2018 release on PS4 and Xbox One, going on to note that he wouldn’t be surprised if the November 19 release date actually sticks. He also mentioned the fact that Grand Theft Auto 6 is still being actively developed due to not being considered “content complete” yet, which he believes, could also lead to another delay.

“This is a big and complicated game,” he said. “The last I heard it was still not content complete. That is to say that people were still finishing things up, still finalizing levels and missions and seeing what’s going to make it into the game.”

“It’s really hard to say [what the release date will be] right now,” he continued. “I don’t think anyone at Rockstar could tell you with 100% certainty that they will make it out in November. But I think it feels a little more real than fall 2025 did.”

As for parent company Take-Two Interactive, Schreier said that while it hopes to launch the highly-anticipated game before the end of the fiscal year in March 2027, its priority is still to ensure that the quality of Grand Theft Auto 6 is high.
