Steam hits 50 million subscriptions landmark, 106 million community contributions to Workshop

Valve announces some big statistics

Valve talks about a lot of stuff in the London Games Conference 2012 recently, and some hugely impressive statistics and figures for its service, Steam, were announced.

Steam now has 50 million users, 5 million of which are concurrently online, playing. That is really impressive. The total amount of users is less than Xbox Live and PSN, though, notably.

Valve also announced that there are 500,000 subscribers to the Big Picture beta. The Steam Workshop has over 300,000 software items, and a whopping 106 million community contributions.

These are very impressive figures, and it’s clear that Origin- EA’s very own service- is not proving to be a very threatening competitor to Steam, which still remains the biggest online service for PC gaming, and will remain on top for a long time.

With Steam also expanding on different operating systems, like Linux, we can suspect that these numbers will only grow.
