Pachter: PS Vita Doesn’t Have “Much of a Future”

The Vita audience is a niche audience, apparently.

Count on Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter to state the obvious. Despite the PS Vita seeing price cuts in Japan, which has helped quadruple its sales, Pachter states that the device doesn’t have “much of a future”.

Speaking to NowGamer, Pachter states that, “I don’t think Vita has much of a future, think the handheld market is shrinking, and the Vita audience is a niche audience. At lower prices, one would expect sales to grow.”

The last point on the handheld market shrinking is an interesting one, because the 3DS and DS continue to sell well in Japan. Even in the United States, where the 3DS has been dubbed a “failure” more often than not, it’s still doing much better than the PS Vita and holding it’s own.

That being said, it will be interesting to see where the PS Vita goes from here. The announcement of some much needed exclusives has given it a bit of a boost, but will it be enough for the long-term?
