Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Scan Shows New Area – The Dead Dune

Plus new information on Lightning's Overclock ability.

Keeping up its practice for bestowing odd names onto environments, Square Enix has revealed, via Jump Magazine, a new area in the upcoming Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Called “The Dead Dune”, the area is just that – a large desert with clay brick houses and palm trees. Of course the word ‘dead’ could imply that this is some kind of zombie infested region.

It could but we won’t hold Square Enix accountable for such creativity.

Speaking of monsters though, it’s also been revealed that Lightning will have a new power to help her fend off enemies. Since she’ll be fighting alone (sans annoying cast), the new Overclock ability will help even the odds. Enemies are frozen whenever it’s activated and this consumes GP, something which is tied to magic in the FFXIII universe.

We would assume it has to do with the Countdown Clock. After all, wouldn’t it make sense to give yourself an advantage but think twice since it could reduce the time you have to save the world?

We’ll find out when Lightning Returns: FFXIII releases this year for Xbox 360 and PS3.
