SCE CEO Says PlayStation 4 Will Appeal to Women, Families

The key is people with different sensibilities making games, according to Andrew House.

Andy House, Sony president, introducing PS4
President and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Andrew House recently spoke to The Sun about having their next generation console broaden its appeal beyond male gamers towards women and even families.

“We are not going down the route of making the console pink of course. I think the key is to have people — and increasingly women — with different sensibilities creating different games. It is not all about shoot ’em up games.”

Which is funny, because there a lot of women who enjoy games like Resident Evil as much as they do Mario. But we won’t be too picky.

House also explains the motive for getting more varied developers, including several indie devs, on the gravy train for PS4. He wants to tap into the same market that made games like Angry Birds such a success on smartphones. “The key is getting games developers — who are going to make the next Angry Birds — excited about the PS4. And they are.”

We’ll see how that pans out when the PlayStation 4 launches this Holiday season.
