10 Cancelled PS3 Games That Should Be Developed For the PS4

Here are ten great PS3 cancellations we'd want to see revived for next-gen.

Games are a risky business. For all the blockbuster’s and runaway kickstarter successes you read about are a million husks of game ideas that just didn’t make the cut. Even worse are when these projects go a certain distance before ultimately failing.

Too many shallow graves are dug for promising alpha builds, but we thought we’d round up ten cancelled PS3 games that we’d want to see rise from these ashes like a glorious phoenix. Here are ten cancelled PS3 titles that, just in case you’re a publisher looking for cool ideas, we’d really like to see on PS4.

1. Agent

Rockstar’s famous vapourware has been largely forgotten about since its 2009 announcement and, with anticipation for Grand Theft Auto 5 ramping up swiftly, it’s unlikely Agent will be at the forefront of anyone’s minds. That said, its Cold War setting sounded interesting and, with the power of the PS4, this kind of setting could be brilliantly realised as a next-gen open world game.

2. The Last Guardian

Those who read these features regularly (all four of you) will know that Team Ico’s projected third game shows up in every other Sony feature I write. You’ll know the exact reason for my slavish devotion to Team Ico if you’ve played Ico or Shadow of the Colossus. The Last Guardian has been teased to us for too many years without a real breakthrough or cancellation announcement. I’m hoping that’s because development has shifted over to the PS4, but it wouldn’t be the first time Sony have quietly canned a project.

3. Eight Days

Originally shown as a tech demo at Sony’s 2005 E3 conference, Eight Days hasn’t technically been cancelled. That said, nothing has been heard of it since 2009, prompting my suspicions that the game has either been trashed or moved over to next-gen. With a real time clock and a map spanning eight states (potentially the biggest game map of all time?), Eight Days seemed like a cool project that would be great to see revived on PS4.
