Microsoft says that Kinect 2.0 will not be spying on People

Phil Harrsion, the vice president of Microsoft Game Studios has spoken to EuroGamer to confirm that the firm will not be using their new Kinect technology in Xbox One to spy on people behind their backs.

This is what he had to say regarding to how the new Xbox One always listens to what people say:

“We take it very seriously. We aren’t using Kinect to snoop on anybody at all. We listen for the word ‘Xbox On’ and then switch on the machine, but we don’t transmit personal data in any way, shape or form that could be personally identifiable to you, unless you explicitly opt into that.”

This has started a controversy due to the strange Kinect patent that Microsoft holds. According to the patent it says that the hardware will always be monitoring and watching every single person in the room.

Obviously, this can raise some sort of questionable ethics and intentions that are unknown. However, to be entirely honest, I think people just like to over-exaggerate and start unnecessary drama and everyone knows that the company is not that stupid.

If the firm does anything like this, then Microsoft would easily get sued for such actions. Microsoft is making a gaming console/entertainment device for your living room and not a giant camera that watches you.
