At E3 2013, Sony announced the launch price for the PlayStation 4 to be $399 USD, which was immensely well received by the audience and media. However, as to whether we’ll see a price cut for the PlayStation 3 in the coming months – since it will become a better means for first gamers to segue into the PlayStation – the wait is going to be a lot longer.
Sony UK MD Fergal Gara recently told GamesIndustry International that in regards to a price cut, “There’s no plans as yet. The PlayStation 3 is a system where it hasn’t been particularly easy to get the costs down. We continue to look at opportunities, there may or may not be any more, I genuinely can’t answer to that.
“But it will certainly be a more keenly priced machine in relative to PlayStation 4. It will sit there as a viable entry level machine for years to come. It will be different by territory as to how long its life is. There’s still a lot of love for PS3.”
Despite the PS4’s announcement, there will be other titles due for the PS3 in the coming months including Puppeteer, Luftrausers and a ton of multi-platform titles.
