2010 is drawing to an end, and what a year it has been for gaming. While the consoles have seen a handful of spectacular releases, the handhelds have had their few titles of glory as well- Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver, Dragon Quest IX and more recently, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future for the DS and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, God of War: Ghost of Sparta and Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable are just a few of the brilliant titles that have graced the handheld market this year.

In this article, we will suggest some of the best games for you to buy for your PSP and DS, so that you don’t feel too confused between which game you should buy this holiday season.

DS

Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver

This is but an obvious choice. Buy a Pokemon game, and you’re sure in for a hell of an experience, one that will last you not just for weeks, but months. Maybe even years. The level of addiction a Pokemon game offers is unmatched by any other game on the DS. Pokemon represents the pinnacle of Role Playing Games on any platform it graces, and HeartGold/SoulSilver have to be the best games in the entire series.

Super Scribblenauts

Scribblenauts was one hell of a game yet it had a few flaws of its own, some of which often proved to be game-breaking. Super Scribblenauts is, in every possible way, better than the original game, building upon the idea and perfecting it, providing the gamer with countless hours of gameplay. Buy Super Scribble, and you definitely will not be disappointed.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinel of the Starry Skies

Well, the DS has had a lot of great RPGs this year, and Dragon Quest IX is not just one of them. It is, possibly, the best RPG, maybe even the best game, to have graced the handheld’s library in the past twelve eventful months. Featuring a traditional RPG gameplay engine that will keep players hooked to the game for countless hours at end, Dragon Quest IX is a must buy for all those who own a DS.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn is exactly what a Golden Sun fan would expect it to be- the perfect, addictive and thrilling RPG experience that the series has provided with the previous two installments. While it still does not scale the heights of The Lost Age, it does manage to come across as a wonderful, deep and addictive game that no RPG fans should miss.

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future

Professor Layton has to be the best series the DS has given us till date, and each new Layton game has set a new standard for quality. Curious Village was like a whole new step in gaming, and Diabolical Box improved upon every great aspect in the original. The best of all Layton games, though, is the recently released Unwound Future. Not only does it have the same addicting gameplay and brilliant presentation from the first two games, it also has the best story the series has seen yet. Layton: Unwound Future is a must-buy for all DS owners.
