Naughty Dog’s seminal The Last of Us, which has been making waves worldwide, has translated all that critical adoration into tangible retail performance as well. The Sony published Playstation 3 exclusive has now sold 3.4 million units worldwide, the publisher has confirmed.

This staggering milestone comes just three weeks after the game launched worldwide to perfect scores across the board, and, according to Sony, has ‘surpassed all sales expectations to become the fastest selling Playstation 3 title of 2013.’ That includes major releases like Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, folks.

It is always heartening to see a great game do well; Naughty Dog has confirmed that it thinks that The Last of Us universe may have more stories left to tell, so a sequel might not be as out of the question as was once thought.

Did you play The Last of Us? What did you think about the game?
