New Disney Infinity Video: Toy Box Unexpected Pairings Trailer Gives A Sneak Peak At Gameplay

Mix and match your favorite Disney characters.

Disney Infinity: Toy Box Unexpected Parings is Disney’s upcoming universe-mash up that promises to be both a lot of fun, and a powerhouse in creative gaming. From this today-released trailer, we see – true to the title – some very unexpected pairings of our all time favorite Disney characters. Disregarding the theory that all Pixar movies happen in the same universe, we see Disney/Pixar characters from completely different universes and storylines adventuring together through the all too familiar sequences of some of our favorite films.

Toy Box Unexpected Pairings contains within it several uniquely interesting elements. In addition to the pre-existing adventures that can be played with any pairing of characters you want (each providing unique commentary), there also exists a Toy Box mode. The Disney Infinity Toy Box is, in childish terms, exactly what it sounds like. You have all the tools and sets and characters of the Disney universe at your disposal, and you get to craft your own adventure using whatever elements you choose.

There is a lot of potential within this Toy Box mode, as custom made adventures can be shared and played through with co-op teams of up to 4 players. It is quite likely that some Toy Box custom adventures generated by users will eventually get to a point where the rival the storylines and adventures crafted by the game designers themselves, similar to the mod-craze with many PC games.

One unfortunate aspect of Disney Infinity: Toy Box Unexpected Pairings is that many characters will be sold separately as DLC, forcing gamers to shell out additional money to make the most of the experience. We can only hope that the amount of effort Disney seems to have put into this game makes it worth it.

Disney Infinity releases for the PC, PS3, Wii, Wii U and Xbox 360 on August 18th, 2013.
