Xbox One Controller Will Cost $60, And the Headset An Additional $25

An unforeseen cost to an already expensive system.

Microsoft has announced the price of their new Xbox One controller, posting it to the Microsoft store. The Controller will cost $59.99, with the headset costing an additional $25. There will be no backwards compatibility between Xbox 360 controllers or headsets.

Microsoft has stated that one Xbox One controller will be included in every purchased Xbox One kit. The controller utilizes a rechargeable battery pack, of which an additional one can be purchased for an additional $25 as well.

Microsoft has said that eventually down the line, they will make adapters for the new Xbox One controller, which allow for a myriad of gaming headsets to be connected to it. But for now, gamers who want to trash talk random people in other countries will have to shell out a little extra to Microsoft to indulge themselves.

While many will likely condemn Microsoft for their arm-twisting tactics, Sony’s policy is more or less the same, with their controller debuting at $60 as well, and no backwards compatibility. It’s easy to pick one side as the villain, but it’s not fair. While we aren’t happy about the high costs of the controller, and the stinginess of the one-per-person policy, this isn’t a Microsoft issue. It’s a gaming industry in general issue.
