Initially dismissing the possibility of Sony’s PlayStation Vita handheld being saved by the option of Remote Play with almost all of the PlayStation 4’s upcoming titles, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter shared his thoughts on the handheld and how bad it’s actually doing on an episode of Pach-Attack.
“I think if they made the PS Vita in different colors it wouldn’t sell more. The only thing that’s going to sell more Vitas is compelling software. I shudder to tell you how many units of Vita were sold this month, but the answer is ‘not very many’.
“The Vita is dead, it’s over. It’s a really great device that nobody thinks they need so no one’s buying it – it is really slick, if you get one you will like it.”
This is largely true, in both respects: The Vita is seeing titles like Soul Sacrifice and Dragon’s Crown but isn’t selling gangbusters. Heck, it’s regularly trounced by the Nintendo 3DS in both North America and Japan. Will the announcement of several new titles for the handheld at E3 ring hollow when all is said and done? Or will Remote Play actually make a difference? Let us know in the comments.
