Sony’s PlayStation 4 looks like the ultimate gaming console yet, but let’s be honest, that’s only because Sony seems to be taking the best of everything from all the consoles and systems that have come before it- the Xbox line’s interface and developer perks, online functionality and even some influence on the controller. Nintendo’s focus on quality first party experiences, controller innovation, and low priced hardware. Now, it looks like Sony might be taking on one more influence for the upcoming system- the Oculus Rift, the Kickstarter funded virtual reality headset.

CVG reports that at TGS this year, Sony plans to unveil its own virtual reality headset for its upcoming PlayStation 4 console; apparently this was something it had intended to reveal back at Gamescom, but was delayed for whatever reason. Sony is currently trying to figure out if the headset will be included with the console (to make it a key differentiator of its hardware), or if it will be an accessory.

The problem, of course, is Oculus Rift itself, which is marshaling a surprising amount of support for itself.

In any case, Evolution Studios is said to be working on simulating the cockpit view on DriveClub using the headset; apparently the hardware is an evolution of the 3D headset concept Sony pitched back in January this year.

Yoshida has talked about the existence of this device before.

“Y’know, we’re Sony, so we have lots of different things and different ideas in R&D,” he said about a potential VR headset. “When it come to researching things, we are doing a lot of things that we can’t talk about.”

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more news regarding this, and more, and stay tuned for our TGS coverage.
