PlayStation Vita 2000 Announced: 20 Percent Thinner, 15 Percent Lighter

Certainly the announcement we were all waiting for.

Sony teased the announcement that we were all waiting for, and while some of us (okay, all of us) assumed it was The Last Guardian finally making an appearance, it was actually the stage for a new PS Vita announcement. That’s right: Sony has announced the PlayStation Vita 2000, which is 20 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter than the original and features an LCD screen to save on battery life.

Of course, that actually means one more hour over the original’s battery life but we’re not complaining. There will also be an in-built 1 GB memory card and a micro USB port for charging (a 3G model is also conspicuously absent). Sony also announced a price drop in Vita memory cards from September 10th onwards in Japan, with the cards now retailing at 40 percent less. A new 64 GB memory card will be released on the same day.

Meanwhile, the PlayStation Vita will released on October 10th in Japan for 18980 yen ($190) and will come bundled with a 90 day subscription to PlayStation Plus. Stay tuned for more details on a Western release.
