Team Dakota’s Project Spark was one of the few titles revealed at Microsoft’s E3 presser that came across as totally unexpected. Using the device itself was another matter, since it could seamlessly allow for voice commands and gestures through Kinect to create levels and even entire games. Those games and levels could thus be shared through Xbox Live.

Interestingly, according to Team Dakota’s Project Spark Community Manager Mike Lescault on a recent Reddit thread, you won’t require an Xbox Live Gold subscription for the Xbox One version. “You do not need an Xbox Live Gold account to play Project Spark,” he stated in this thread.

As of now, that’s for the Xbox One version, with Project Spark also releasing for PC and Xbox 360. We expect it to be the same for the latter, but we’ll wait for more information. Project Spark is slated to be released next year, with a more definitive release date to be announced.
