Earlier today Sony announced that in the future they will not hesitate t0 issue password resets if they detect irregular activity on PSN accounts. This is in an attempt to prevent accounts from being hacked and abused, which apparently has been an issue with PSN accounts in the past. This was the official statement from Sony:
“We routinely monitor for irregular activity, and if such activity is detected, we may sometimes reset passwords of affected SEN accounts to protect consumers and their account information.”
Gamers who receive the password reset notification will be prompted to reset their passwords upon attempting to log in. If there is evidence of theft or hacking in their accounts, or if gamers have issues resetting their passwords, PlayStation Network support staff will be at your disposal.
At the end of the day, while some may feel that this is an invasion of privacy, it’s really a good move on Sony’s part. PSN accounts will be monitored no matter what, and if they can help prevent theft, they are right to do so.
