The Order 1886 Developer Explains The Game’s Stellar Cloth Simulation

Studio founder and CTO Andrea Pessino also talks about cool little details in the game.

The Order 1886

Despite still being in a very early stage of development, Ready At Dawn Studios’ The Order: 1886 is looking real good. One of the few things that caught the public’s eye was the cloth simulation in the game. This is usually one of the tougher aspects of a graphical model, especially when you need to realistically simulate the cloth moving about.

Founder and CTO of Ready At Dawn Andrea Pessino talked about it on Twitter. In response to a tweet about the same, Pessino said that:

“We do some unique things with physics: a very fast converging non-stretchable model,”

“We model volumetric resistance in medium – that’s why the cloth ‘catches air’ correctly as opposed to looking like springs.”

One of the coolest things about that short trailer was the player turns over the gun to Galahad’s hand right after he removes it from the crate. Andrea revealed that they plan to use such cool moments more in the game.

The Order: 1886 isn’t all about pretty graphics though – creative director Ru Weerasuriya also talked about the fighting and cover mechanics today, besides explaining the jovial cast of monster hunters.

Though it has no set release date, The Order: 1886 is rumoured to be out by Autumn on the PlayStation 4. Stay tuned for more details.
