New Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Trailer Reminds Us Why Monster Hunter Is King

Game looks boss.

You know, of late, there’ve been a few Monster Hunter clones trying to stake a claim to the genre king throne, particularly given the series’ relative weakness of late. There have been games like Toukiden: Age of Demons and Ragnarok Odyssey ACE, and while all of them have been uniformly excellent, there isn’t anything quite as good as the real thing. Something that the newest trailer for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (Monster Hunter 4G in Japan), set to launch exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS, reminds us.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the enhanced, expanded version of Monster Hunter 4, that launched in Japan last year, and kicked off the fourth generation of the series. It is also the only Monster Hunter 4 game that we will get in the west, as Capcom decided to skip out on bringing us the vanilla version, and are bringing us the expanded, enhanced, loaded to the gills version instead.

The game looks absolutely amazing, and is due for a Japan launch later this year, with a western launch slated for 2015. Unlike Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which also launched on Wii U, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate has so far only been announced for the 3DS, with no Wii U version currently planned.
