Will Fallout 4 See An Upgraded Pipboy 3000 for Boston?

What could the little device do this time around?

Bethesda Softworks’ still hasn’t officially revealed Fallout 4 and has made little to no indication of changing that even with E3 2014 around the corner. However, the game does exist thanks to some recent trademark filings and job ads posted by Bethesda .

So far we have seen our thought process ranging from adding new NPC companions to borrowing armor customization systems from other popular games, but one thing that we’re most interested in seeing changed is the Pipboy 3000. This served as the primary tool and interface for Fallout 3 as it dictated how you used the V.A.T.S. system and kept track of your progress. What could the Fallout 4 version possibly add? It could serve as a new means to craft items and provide notifications depending on your requirements. Perhaps it could be used to call in drones and airstrikes.

Furthermore, we can also see new features like the ability to act as a scanner, act as an audio/video speaker or even a recorder if there is a requirement. Bethesda should also provide the ability to upgrade the Pipboy by letting the player find upgrade chips. Fallout: New Vegas did featured some sort of Pipboy modification so it’s bound to be in Fallout 4. The possibilities are really limitless for Fallout 4.

But what would fit within the context of Fallout 4’s universe? We’ll have to wait to find out for sure, but let us know your thoughts on what the new Pipboy should feature.

This article is part of our weekly series on Bethesda’s next big entry into the world of Fallout. Through this series we take a look at the possible new features that Bethesda can add into Fallout 4, based on what they implemented in the previous entries and player feedback.
