Battlefield Hardline

Footage of Visceral Games’ Battlefield: Hardline had been revealed just a day after details of the game had leaked via a Battlelog update and an EA event for the Battlefield community. The footage is being pulled due to breach in Terms of Use – but several details have been noted from the same.

The campaign mode takes a much more personal approach than previous games. You’ll play as Nick Mendoza as he seeks revenge on his his partner to recover money from a coke deal gone bad. You won’t just be seeking justice though – you can either follow the law or serve yourself, according to the trailer.

The story has been written by the same minds behind Justified and House of Cards and there will be different ways to complete each mission. On completion, you’ll face a cliffhanger not unlike those seen on most drama shows. The environments are apparently the biggest yet and supports Levolution for environmental destruction (similar to that seen in Battlefield 4). As for weapons, you can look forward to police scanners, tazers and sawn off shotguns, along with the ability to capture secondary criminals. This will garner more money and thus allow for new guns to be unlocked.

Multiplayer is definitely more intriguing. You’ll have several new modes: Heist, wherein one team robs a bank while another team tries to stop them; Rescue, where players play as SWAT and must rescue hostages; Hotwire which is a high-stakes chase between cops and crooks as passengers shoot each other; and Blood Money, wherein cops and crooks fight over a pile of cash that must be returned to the safe house. Ziplines, planes, parachutes and the ability to slide into vents were also observed. Along with the zip-line, grappling hooks can be used throughout the map.

Battlefield: Hardline will be released on the Xbox One, PS4, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. It’s expected to be out in Fall 2014 which puts it in direct competition with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
