Media Create Software Sales: Mario Kart 8 Debuts With 325K Units Sold

Media Create sales for the week of May 26th to June 1st are now available and as indicated by its success in the UK, Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U has debuted on top in Japan. It managed to sell 325,892 units in its first week, which is roughly 4 times that of second place debutant Mobile Suit Gundam Side Stories on the PS3 (which sold 82,048 units in its first week).

Youkai Watch managed to sell 36,868 units and crossed 1,020,877 units sold in its lifetime. inFamous: Second Son saw a slight rise in sale numbers with 8,622 units sold in the past week, making for 43,423 units sold in its lifetime in Japan. Mario Party: Island Tour rounded out the top ten with 6,064 units sold (383,989 units in its lifetime).

Mario Kart 8 has been a strong success for Nintendo, increased the amount of Wii U hardware sold in the UK by 666 percent. How it will help Wii U sales in Japan remains to be seen but things seem to be turning around for Nintendo.
