Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain

Director Hideo Kojima has always emphasized narration in his games and Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is no exception. After the stellar E3 2014 trailer – which was leaked to fans in advance – directors like Nicolas Winding Refn, Park Chan-wook, Shinya Tsukamoto and more have praised Kojima on the game’s official website.

Refn, who directed the classic Drive, stated, “Watching the trailers for MGSV makes you wonder if the spirits of Dostoyevsky, Stanley Kubrick, and Caravaggio entered Hideo Kojima’s body because, using the art of gaming as his canvas, he boldly goes where no one has gone before.”

Oldboy director Park Chan-wook said, “He has actually been making films in his own way already. Metal Gear Solid games are already films, the films of the future.”

Then you have Tsukamoto, who created Tetsuo: The Iron Man. He stated that “by the time you finish this game, you should be changed into a completely new person”.

Over-praising a game solely based on a snazzy trailer or earnest accolades? We’ll find out when Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain releases.
