id Software showed off its newest Doom game at this year’s QuakeCon to the live audience and that essentially translated to a live single-player demo. Executive producer Marty Stratton was also on hand to discuss why the game was called Doom and not Doom 4.
This is simply because “it’s an origin game, reimagining everything about the originals”. Doom takes place on Mars outside of a research facility and you’ll once again be battling demons. The fact paced shooting has “new combat mechanics and features to evolve the FPS experience” and you’ll fight both small enemies and large demons that will be hard to kill.
There will also be different melee attacks, such as stomping enemies after stunning them with bullets. Thus far, the shotgun, chainsaw and plasma rifle are confirmed and you won’t be able to regenerate your health. You can pick up health items from enemies though. It also seems that Doom won’t skimp on the gore, as evidenced by some of the brutal deaths in the single-player demo.
Doom is built on id Tech 6 and will be running at 1080p resolution on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Stay tuned for more details.
