Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be taking the franchise forward in a new direction but it is part of a long-running series. That means that not only does the developer have to cater to the millions of casual fans but also to eSports players who religiously participate.

Fortunately, as lead multiplayer designer Greg Reisdorf said to MCV, “We use the eSports community as a sounding board. We have guys at the studio that have been on the eSports circuit, and they are constantly playing and telling us what the issues are.”

This doesn’t mean that Sledgehammer is making a game purely for pros though. “And we’re like: ‘Hey guys, that’s great feedback. But does it fit with the vision of the game?’ This is the first game that we have lead on. We want to bring something new, whilst not alienating the 30m people who play it religiously.”

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare releases for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, PC and Wii U on November 4th. Will you be picking it up? Let us know below.
