Dead Rising 3 (2)

As I said yesterday, apparently we are now going to get more and more movies based on video games. And really, if Tetris can get a movie, then well, anything is fair game.

And on that note, I would like to tell you more about the upcoming movie based on Capcom’s hit zombie action series, Dead Rising. According to the movie’s director, Zach Lipovsky, the movie is supposed to be like Indiana Jones with zombies.

“I really like the tone of the game. It’s definitely got its dark, scary beats, but ultimately it’s an adventure film,” he said. “Every time I get scared or laugh while playing, I make a note to add it to the script. Tonally it will be like ‘Indiana Jones with zombies.’ Fun, scary, dramatic action.”

Okay, honestly that is absolutely… pretty interesting, actually. If he can pull it off, this might actually be a pretty darn good movie right there.

He also spoke about where the movie slots in with respect to the games.

“It takes place between the Fortune City outbreak in Dead Rising 2 and Los Perdidos outbreak from Dead Rising 3,” he said. “So it’s a part of the greater franchise narrative. Of course some familiar faces show up as well.”

So it sounds like it will be tightly integrated with the larger series narrative, while also giving us its own take on the action. That sounds good to me. I can be down with that.
