Fallout 3 was and still is an excellent game. A little bit buggy for sure, but overall it’s a great gameplay experience. Fallout: New Vegas wasn’t quite as good but it’s still a very good game indeed. But what does Fallout 4 need if it plans to improve? Most folks tend to agree on the expected improvements and there’s a general consensus on expected features as well, which is nice.
It needs mod support. This is all but guaranteed because as I recently mentioned, Fallout is only still relevant because of the mod community keeping it afloat completely of their own steam. If Fallout 4 doesn’t support modding, there will be riots.
It needs a refined story. New Vegas was great, but it took such broad strokes that the factions come across as unwieldy and disconnected from the player, despite your constant service. Fallout 3’s Narrative was much more refined, but not linear. More of this please.
Better implementation of optional mechanics. Remember the stealth system in the original Fallout games? If your character was well versed in stealth, then you were (for lack of a better word) a ninja. In Fallout 3 and New Vegas, you were never really guaranteed to act stealthily. Fix that.
A better implementation of armour classes. I always, ALWAYS play a Brotherhood of Steel Paladin. Why? Because it looks and feel badass. But all the powered plate armour is more or less tissue paper. When my armour is as thick my apartments walls, a 9mm should not even be able to bruise me, let alone kill me. Yep, fix that too.
Finally, but this is purely for the convenience of you find folks that like it, fix the third person camera. That thing looks, feels, handles and generally just is ugly. Either fix it or don’t have it at all.
