Phil Spencer, always on Twitter and interacting with the community, answered a curious Xbox fan’s question as to when games that fully utilized DirectX 12, the new API that should make game development on the console much easier, and for the end user, lead to some tangible graphical boost, will be out. Spencer’s response? They should start coming out by the end of 2015.

Interestingly enough, Microsoft has some big games of its own lined up to release in that time frame, so it will be interesting to see if any of them – such as Quantum Break, Halo 5, or even Rise of the Tomb Raider (many of which have been in development since before the Xbox One released) will utilize DirectX 12 completely.

He also said that while he expects studios to utilize the tools given to them via DirectX 12, every studio will do what is good for them, and so, we may continue to see major games released that don’t use it natively- a possibility when so many major game systems, such as PlayStation, Nintendo, iOS and Android, and Mac and Linux, don’t use DirectX.
