A film based on Konami’s successful Metal Gear Solid franchise is apparently on the way. According to Deadline, Sony Pictures is closed a deal for the same and revealed Jay Basu (Monsters: Dark Continent, Song of Songs) as script writer and Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island, The Kings of Summer) as director. Production will be headed by Michael de Luca.

Not much else is known about the project at this time, including which part of the story it will take place in. Even more interestingly, it’s not known whether Hideo Kojima is or will be involved. As of now, the film could be considered to be in the very earliest stages of pre-production with a script still needing to be written.

Konami and Kojima have been facing difficulties as of late with the latter reportedly leaving the company by year-end after the release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. For its part, Konami has closed down Kojima Productions Japan and is apparently folding all related talent into the core company. We’ll see how this pans out for the film in the coming years.
