Valve’s Steam Workshop has introduced a new feature that allows mod makers to earn revenue from their creations. All mods, maps and other items for supported games can now be sold through Steam Workshop. Such examples include The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which has been a modding favourite for years now and will be the first title to support this new model.

Valve Software’s Tom Bui stated that, “We think this is a great opportunity to help support the incredible creative work being done by mod makers in the Steam Workshop.

“User generated content is an increasingly significant component of many games, and opening new avenues to help financially support those contributors via Steam Workshop will help drive the level of UGC to new heights.”

Since Steam Workshop debuted in 2011, content makers have earned more than $57 million. The new process will allow for easier selling of mods. Creators can also choose to name a price for their mods or to simply offer them for free. More Steam titles are expected to implement this feature in the coming months so stay tuned.
