Konami’s struggles when it comes to putting games out for the console and PC gamers of this generation has apparently made the firm take a longer look at its future. The company’s new CEO Hideki Hayakawa seems to have decided that future is going to lead the firm more towards the mobile platform. Sitting down with Japanese website Nikkei Trendy Net, the exec said, “Our main platform will be mobiles. Following the pay-as-you-play model of games like Power pro and Winning Eleven with additional content, our games must move from selling things like “items” to selling things like “features.”‘

Hayakawa added that he doesn’t just believe that mobile is going to be the future of gaming for Konami but that the mobile platform is going to be the future of gaming in general. The company’s CEO also made mention that he hopes games like Metal Gear Solid V continue to do well on their current platforms, but that Konami has already started looking at ways to bring its most popular games over to the mobile side.

He explained the company’s interest in mobile by pointing out that even when people buy a game on disc, as opposed to digital download, they are usually going to buy extra content like DLC or upgrades that are downloadable. Finally, Hayakawa said that he doesn’t believe there is much of a point in bringing games that are only playable on one particular console or another. He believes that mobile games will connect all players around the world.
