Capcom: Street Fighter V Will Never Come to Xbox One

Get that idea out of your head.

Street Fighter 5

When Sony announced that Street Fighter V would be coming exclusively to the PlayStation 4, there was a lot of surprise at the company having managed to bag such a high profile exclusive, but for fans of the series who are Xbox bound, the news was worrying. They pointed out, convincingly enough, however, that Capcom would surely find a way to circumvent the exclusivity- possibly by releasing a ‘Super’ or ‘Ultra’ version on Xbox One, or something else along those lines. After all, Capcom is a port happy company, and Street Fighter especially always gets ported to everything that is capable of running it- why would Street Fighter V be any different?

Well, Capcom is insisting it will be, so if, for some reason, you are holding out in hopes that the game will actually come to the Xbox One sooner or later? Better get that idea out of your head, guys.

“One comment we see a lot is that something like a Super Street Fighter 5 is going to come out on Xbox,” said a Capcom representative to Gamespot. “But the reality is that this is a real partnership. We are console exclusive for this franchise for this numbered run.”

Those are strong words, after all- never say never, and all those things, right? But it sounds like the partnership has a real meaning to Capcom. They aren’t just getting paid or getting marketing support, but it sounds like they are getting some real developmental assistance from Sony.

“We’re not talking about how we’re handling post-launch content, but I can say the relationship with Sony does open doors for things we haven’t been able to do in the past,” the representative said.

“The relationship serves a gameplay and development purpose, and not just a marketing value.”

So… if you’re a fighting game fan, or a Street Fighter fan (is there any difference?), best start saving up for a PS4 now, guys.
