Bethesda Softworks’ mobile title Fallout Shelter released this Sunday in the wake of the presentation for Fallout 4 and has quickly raced to the top of the charts on iTunes. It’s currently the top free app and the fourth overall in terms of revenue.

However, Fallout 4 director Todd Howard said during a panel presentation (attended by GameSpot), that the game was about getting the Fallout brand out there rather than making money. “This is not about making money. This is about getting Fallout out there.”

With regards to fans spending money on virtual lunchboxes in the game, which cost from 99 cent for one to $20 for 40, Howard said, “It just shows that fans are smart; and if you give them something they think is fun, they probably reward the people who made it.”

Fallout Shelter is currently available for iOS but Bethesda is working on an Android version that should be out in the coming months. Fallout 4 is meanwhile slated to release on November 10th for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
