Halo 5 Guardians

Perhaps learning from the fiasco that was Halo: The Master Chief Collection, 343 Industries and Microsoft research teams are hard at work stamping out bugs left and right on Halo 5: Guardians. It makes sense, considering how important the launch of this new game is to both companies. Microsoft is making a big push when it comes to giving the Xbox One a leg up on the PS4. With the game coming in October, a new video has surfaced showing just how hard Microsoft Research and 343 are working to stamp out the bugs.

Considering the number of surprises and twists the story brings, its a safe bet that there will be some problems along the way. The two teams are using a rather new approach in order to get at these bugs. The video shows Senior Microsoft researcher Rob DeLine giving us a look at Trill, a high-performance analytics engine, alongside Tempe. This solution is a web service for exploring that data. DeLine talks about how this approach helped the team discover a bug with one of Halo 5’s medals. The team saw that medal was being awarded incorrectly using a spectator mode they were able to squash the bug quicker than they might have been able to do otherwise.

It seems a safe bet that if Trill is gathering data when it comes to medals, it is also gathering data about things like weapons. That seems to mean that weapon balancing is going to be fixed or at least very close to it once Halo 5: Guardians launches exclusively on the Xbox One on October 27th.
