Destiny The Taken King

While there are still plenty of reasons to be skeptical of Bungie and the work they’re doing on Taken King, the company seems to be putting a lot on the line with this particular piece of DLC. The new content has already been talked about as a kind of way to change up the way the game has been rolled out, including getting rid of the original voice of the Ghost that leads you around the worlds. Now it’s been revealed that Bungie is looking to use the Taken King as a vehicle to change up the way the game tells its story.

The Bungie team recently sat down with Game Informer and talked about the “100 little things” the company is doing in order to change the way the storytelling is done. The highlights of that interview is that they are putting in more cutscenes as well as much more spoken dialogue in general. Destiny has been rather short on storytelling since the title was first launched but it appears Bungie wants to make sure the game is a little more linear these days.

Questgivers are said to have a more central role in this new content as well. Having heard all of this, the reason why the Taken King is so much more expensive than what you usually see with DLC is starting to crystallize. This isn’t just new content, but it’s actually a major revamping of the original game. In some regards, while this isn’t technically a sequel, it seems as if there is enough changed that the DLC could certainly serve as an unofficial Destiny 2.
