Should The Elder Scrolls 6 or Skyrim 2 Approach A Horror Type Fantasy Story Telling?

Someplace like Black Marsh could be an interesting setting.

While it’s true that it’s going to be a while before we see another Skyrim or Elder Scrolls 6, there’s no harm in trying to figure out what Bethesda might eventually have in the works when it comes to the plot and theme of a game that it seems likely will eventually be made. We’ve already talked about the fact that the game should have a better story than we’ve seen in the last couple of iterations in this series. What about if that story went a different direction entirely and embraced the popularity of the horror video game genre.

Bethesda has obviously borrowed from existing fantasy tropes in order to put out its Skyrim and Elder Scrolls games before. There are plenty of horror fantasy stories out there that the company could lean on. How about something like Black Marsh to be a model for this new game? The land is inhabited by a reptilian race known as the Argonians. While this part of the world has another name, “The Garbage Heap,” there is enough there that something rather spooky and frightening could be built using that part of the world.

This would also allow Bethesda to put out a new game that goes along with the series they’ve created but with a brand new feel. That could be the silver bullet that would make the first Elder Scrolls or Skyrim on the current generation of consoles stand out from the pack. Of course, this is all conjecture but Bethesda would be smart to listen.

This article is part of our weekly series on Bethesda’s next big entry into the world of The Elder Scrolls. Through this series we take a look at the possible new features that Bethesda can add into the next The Elder Scrolls game, based on what they implemented in the previous entries and player feedback.
