I’ve made my objections to the new, upcoming Need for Speed game, multiple times in the past. While the game itself looks great, and looks like a perfect marriage and culmination of the multiple disparate identities the series has often had, my issue with it is its always online requirement- I just can’t abide by it.

But it doesn’t seem like it was a requirement made out of any malice- in fact, judging by some of the other policies that were just announced for the game, it almost sounds like this will be one of the most consumer friendly games EA has released in a while. For instance, developer Ghost Games has confirmed that there will be no paid DLC for the game at all- instead, they are opting for the free updates route that gave DriveClub such staying power in spite of its disastrous launch. “We plan to release a series of free content updates for Need for Speed. We currently have no plans for any paid DLC,” they said, also adding, “There will be no micro transactions.”

Really, that sounds just about perfect to me. It makes me very happy. if only this game did not have that always online requirement, it would be the perfect Need for Speed game, at least judging by all the information we have so far.

Oh well. Need for Speed launches November 3 on Xbox One and PS4; a PC version is slated for a Spring 2016 launch.
